Where to start
-
Your first time in Cairo, and you want to pick the museum
Flights both ways, about 2.5 hours on the Giza plateau with the panorama point and the Sphinx, lunch facing the pyramids and one museum you choose when booking: the Grand Egyptian Museum, or the old Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square from 6 people. Entry to Giza, the Sphinx and the museum is listed as included; the inside of the pyramids is not.
-
You would rather see the royal mummies
The same operator's flight day with a different museum choice: the Grand Egyptian Museum or the Royal Mummies Hall at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, the latter from 6 people. Giza, the Sphinx and lunch with a view of the pyramids are part of the day.
-
Most time in the Grand Egyptian Museum
This flight tour plans close to three hours in the Grand Egyptian Museum after Giza and lunch, and its listing shows no shopping stop. Entry to the pyramid area and the museum is included; the Citadel of Saladin can be added at extra cost.
-
A private day with your own guide
Flights, a driver and an Egyptologist guide for your party only, with Giza, the Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square, Khan el-Khalili and lunch. The listing includes all entrance fees. One guest found the "bazaar" was a small shop rather than Khan el-Khalili itself, so ask for the real market if it matters to you.
-
Two days, with Saqqara and a hotel night
A private two-day trip by plane: Giza, the Step Pyramid of Saqqara and Memphis on the first day, a night in a 4-star hotel, then the Egyptian Museum, the Citadel and Khan el-Khalili. Cancellation is free only up to 3 days before, and the operator confirms the flights after booking.
The bus costs less and takes the night
The same sights are sold as bus tours for a quarter to a third of the flight price. The road from Hurghada to Cairo is about 450 km, and a coach needs 5.5 to 7 hours each way, so bus tours leave between about midnight and 2 in the morning and bring you back in the early hours of the following night. Two listings give a 2:00 pickup and 6 hours on the road each way. The German Federal Foreign Office advises against travelling overland at night in Egypt (advice as of 2 November 2026). The flight tours leave a few hours later, spend about an hour in the air each way and have you back the same evening, but a delayed flight can cut into the day. Both options with their tours: plane or bus from Hurghada to Cairo.
- Give your names exactly as they appear in your passport. The operator books the domestic flights with them, and you need your passport at the airport.
- Check which museum and which tickets your option includes. Some tours let you choose between the Grand Egyptian Museum and the old museum on Tahrir Square, one offers the royal mummies instead, and on the Nice Tours flight tours the museum entry comes only with the option that includes it.
- None of the tours here has the inside of a pyramid in its base price; some sell it as an option.
- Read the cancellation terms. Most tours here can be cancelled free up to 24 hours before, the two-day trip up to 3 days before, and one flight tour is non-refundable.
- Many tours include a 30-minute stop at a papyrus, perfume or alabaster shop. The listings call the shopping optional, but it takes time from the day.
- Hotels in El Gouna, Makadi, Sahl Hasheesh, Soma Bay or Safaga are picked up for a surcharge on most tours; the amount differs by listing.
- Staying in Sharm el-Sheikh on a Sinai-only entry stamp? That stamp does not allow travel to Cairo; you need a full Egyptian visa (German Federal Foreign Office, as of 2 November 2026).
How a flight day to Cairo runs
Times are ranges from the tour listings and one operator's published schedule; your exact pickup time comes with the booking confirmation.
- Pickup before dawn A driver collects you at your hotel, usually between about 3 and 7 in the morning depending on the flight, and drives you 15 to 45 minutes to Hurghada airport.
- The flight About an hour from Hurghada to Cairo, roughly 400 km in a straight line; the listings give 60 to 80 minutes. A representative meets you in the arrivals hall.
- Giza The pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, a panorama point and the Sphinx, 2 to 3 hours on most listings.
- Lunch and museum Lunch in a restaurant, often with a view of the pyramids, and about 2 hours in the museum of your option. The order changes with flight times and traffic.
- Back the same day An evening flight to Hurghada. One operator gives 22:00 to 23:30 for the return to the hotel; a guest on another tour had a return flight at 22:30.
Other ways to do the trip
One listing number per tour
Several Cairo flight tours on GetYourGuide share the same title, "Full-Day Trip to Cairo by Plane", and come from different operators. The table keeps them apart by operator and lists for each one the museum, the group type and what else the listing promises for the day. When you book through a link on this site, GetYourGuide pays a commission; your price stays the same.
Other long day trips from the Red Sea
Luxor is the other big excursion from Hurghada. No package tour flies there; the tours go by road, about four and a half hours each way in a van, compared on Luxor day trips from Hurghada. If you want to add Jordan, Petra and Wadi Rum tours covers the two-day trips, including those that start in Egypt.
FAQ about Cairo day trips from Hurghada
How long is the flight from Hurghada to Cairo?
About an hour. Route data gives 1 hour 5 minutes for the roughly 400 km between the two airports (flightconnections.com, checked 2 November 2026). With the drive to Hurghada airport, check-in and the transfer from Cairo airport, the tours run from before dawn until late in the evening.
What time is the pickup?
Usually between about 3 and 7 in the morning, depending on the tour and the flight. The operators send the exact time by WhatsApp or email the day before. One operator's published schedule has the return to the hotel between 22:00 and 23:30.
Which museum will I see?
It depends on the tour and the option. Some tours let you choose between the Grand Egyptian Museum next to the Giza plateau and the old Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square; one offers the Grand Egyptian Museum or the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization with the royal mummies; the private tour and one of the older listings go to Tahrir only. The comparison table names the museum for each tour.
Are the entry tickets included?
It depends on the tour and the option. The Book Tour Egypt and Ranco flight tours list entry to the Giza plateau and the museum as included, and the FTS Travelss tour includes the museum of the option you book. On the Nice Tours flight tours, museum entry comes only with the option that includes it, while the private tour lists all entrance fees. None of the listings has the inside of a pyramid in the base price, and camel rides and Nile boat trips are extra.
What do I need for the domestic flight?
Your passport, and the names of all travellers exactly as in the passport when you book, because the operator issues the flight tickets with them; some operators ask for passport details after booking. The tours include the flights and the transfers in Hurghada and Cairo.
Is the bus a good alternative?
It is much cheaper and visits the same sights, but the coach needs about 6 hours each way. Bus tours leave between about midnight and 2 in the morning and return in the early hours of the next night, so you spend two nights on the road. The German Federal Foreign Office advises against overland travel at night in Egypt (as of 2 November 2026).
What happens if a flight is delayed?
None of the listings we read says what happens if the return flight is missed, so ask the operator before you book if your schedule is tight. The German Federal Foreign Office notes that flight disruptions are possible because of the situation in the Middle East (as of 2 November 2026).
Can I go from Sharm el-Sheikh?
The tours on this site start in Hurghada and pick up in the resort towns around it. If you are staying in Sharm el-Sheikh on the Sinai-only entry stamp, note that it does not allow travel to Cairo; you need a full Egyptian visa (German Federal Foreign Office, as of 2 November 2026).
