Best time for a Cairo day trip from Hurghada

The tours are sold for every season. What changes with the season is the heat on the Giza plateau, the opening hours in Ramadan and how cold the morning is when the driver comes.

The short answer

The best time for a Cairo day trip from Hurghada is the cooler half of the year around winter, when Cairo averages about 19 °C by day in January instead of about 35 °C in July; most of the day is spent outdoors at Giza.

In Ramadan, expected from about 8 or 9 February to 9 or 10 March 2027, the Giza plateau opens an hour later. In winter, the pickup before dawn is cold, so bring a jacket for the airport and the first hours.

Summer heat at Giza

From late spring to early autumn, Cairo is hot: about 35 °C on an average July day, more on hot days, and the pyramids stand on open desert ground. Most itineraries put Giza in the morning, but with a flight that lands late the visit can fall around midday. Bring a hat, sunscreen and water; Book Tour Egypt hands out 3 bottles per person. The museum and lunch in the afternoon are indoors.

Winter mornings

In winter the days in Cairo are mild, around 19 °C in January, but nights drop to about 11 °C. The pickup in Hurghada comes before dawn on most tours, and you wait at the airport in the early morning, so a jacket or a warm layer helps; the bus tours that drive overnight ask for warm clothing in their listings. Giza closes in the afternoon, at 16:00 according to a travel guide, so the short winter days do not shorten the visit much.

Ramadan 2027

Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on about 8 or 9 February and end on 9 or 10 March, with Eid al-Fitr around 10 or 11 March; the exact dates depend on the sighting of the moon, announced in Egypt by Dar al-Ifta. During Ramadan the Giza plateau opens at 08:00 and closes at 16:30, according to a travel guide, an hour later than usual. The tours run, but one guest on a flight tour reported that the Khan el-Khalili stop was replaced by a shopping centre. Ask the operator what changes on your date.

Eclipse of 2 August 2027

The total solar eclipse of 2 August 2027 crosses southern Egypt. Cairo and the pyramids of Giza lie outside the path of totality and see a partial eclipse of about 95 percent, according to space.com. August is also one of the hottest months of the year in both Hurghada and Cairo. If you plan a Cairo trip for that day, bring certified eclipse glasses.

Plan it early in your stay

Whatever the month, the flights can be delayed and none of the listings says what happens if the return flight is missed. Doing the trip early in your holiday leaves room to rebook. The day hour by hour shows where the time goes.
