From pickup to the flight back

The Cairo flight day hour by hour

About 16 hours from hotel to hotel: two flights of about an hour, Giza, lunch and a museum. The order changes with the flight times.

The short answer

A Cairo day trip by plane from Hurghada starts with a pickup between about 3 and 7 in the morning, flies about an hour to Cairo, spends roughly 2.5 hours at Giza, an hour at lunch and 2 to 3 hours in a museum, and ends back at the hotel late in the evening, one operator says between 22:00 and 23:30.

The listings say the order of the sights can change with flight times and Cairo traffic, and none of them says what happens if the return flight is missed.

The day in time ranges

Ranges from the tour listings and one operator's published schedule. Your exact pickup and flight times come with the booking confirmation.

Time (o'clock)What happens
About 3 to 7 Pickup at your hotel, 15 to 45 minutes to Hurghada airport, check-in. The time comes by WhatsApp or email the day before.
About 5 to 8 Flight to Cairo, about an hour; the listings give 60 to 80 minutes. A representative with a sign meets you in the arrivals hall.
Morning Giza plateau: a panorama point, the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure and the Sphinx, about 2.5 hours.
Midday Lunch, often in a restaurant with a view of the pyramids, about an hour.
Afternoon The museum of your option, about 2 to 3 hours, and on most tours a shop or workshop stop.
Early evening Drive to Cairo airport, about 45 minutes; with a late flight some tours add Khan el-Khalili or Old Cairo.
About 19 to 23 Flight back to Hurghada and the drive to your hotel; one operator gives 22:00 to 23:30 for the return.

Before dawn

One operator's guide gives 03:00 to 04:00 for the pickup and 05:00 to 07:00 for the departure; a guest on the Book Tour Egypt mummies tour was collected at 7:00. The flight from Hurghada to Cairo covers about 400 km in a straight line and takes about 1 hour 5 minutes on route data; the listings give 60 to 80 minutes. They do not name the airline, and you need your passport at the airport, with the names in the booking exactly as in it.

Why Giza often comes first

A travel guide gives the opening hours of the Giza plateau as 07:00 to 16:00, and 08:00 to 16:30 during Ramadan. With an early flight, most tours go to the pyramids first, when it is cooler and before the afternoon closing, and leave the museum and lunch for later. Book Tour Egypt plans about 2.5 hours on the plateau, including a panorama point. Ranco Travel Egypt can add the Citadel of Saladin before Giza as an option at extra cost, which shortens the rest of the morning.

The afternoon

After lunch comes the museum: close to three hours in the Grand Egyptian Museum on the Ranco Travel Egypt tour, the GEM or the royal mummies on Book Tour Egypt's mummies tour. Both Book Tour Egypt tours then stop at a shop or workshop in Giza. If the return flight is late, the Book Tour Egypt museum tour may add Khan el-Khalili, Old Cairo or Cairo Festival City, time permitting; it is not a fixed part of the day.

When a flight is late

Everything depends on two domestic flights on the same day. The Book Tour Egypt listings warn that the order can change because of flight times, traffic and daylight, and the German Federal Foreign Office notes that flight disruptions are possible because of the situation in the Middle East (as of 2 November 2026). A late outbound flight usually costs museum time; the listings we read do not say what happens if the return flight is cancelled or missed. If you fly home the next morning, ask the operator before you book, or plan the trip earlier in your holiday.

Guests on the length of the day

Reviews of the tours on this page, a critical one included. Guests describe a full day from before dawn to late evening; the main complaint is that talks and a shop stop left too little time for photos.

“Could not recommend more. Had an amazing day which was action packed and interesting. Tour guide, Falcon, was very knowledgeable, helpful and organised throughout the trip. Well worth the money.”

“[…] We booked late notice and every detail was perfect. Family of 5 from Ireland, we were nervous because yes it's a lot of money and the itinerary Seems overwhelming but everything is meticulously planned and thought out. […] Our Egyptologist Mohamed Mahdy is an absolute genius and gentleman, he was so informative kind and funny. […]”
Michelle · United Kingdom · October 2026 Cairo by flight with the royal mummies or the GEM (Book Tour Egypt)
“The pyramids sphinx and GEM were beautiful and awesome as we had hoped Unfortunately for a 16 hour day we found we barely had time to enjoy and take everything in , barely anytime for photos as the guide Mr Falcon who was very knowledgeable just loved his own voice and spent half the time at each attraction doing nothing but talking. […] Then not mentioned in the guide was a stop at a perfume and essence building, which was clearly designed to help you spend more money […]”
